The Fun, the Good, and the Ugly: Happy Chanukah from Manischewitz
By Susan Rosenbluth
Just in time for Chanukah, Manischewitz has come out with two lovely products that some might say were stolen from Christmas ideas—but don’t tell that to the Jewish children who have loved making the kosher, parve sugar cookies from kits being sold by the venerable, Orthodox Union certified-kosher brand known for bringing comfort food to Jewish homes for more than 133 years.
The first—something everyone might want to try on for size—is the Manischewitz Ugly Sweater Chanukah Sugar Cookie Kit. It contains everything needed to create the ugliest sweater imaginable: a sugar-cookie mix, traditional yellow and blue color powders, Chanukah sprinkle mix, three piping bags, a sweater cookie cutter, and, of course, directions.
The only element the children we saw trying it needed to add was their own senses of humor and creativity. And when they were through, they had nine cookies to share.
If traditional Chanukah cookies are more in keeping with a party or family celebration plan, Manischewitz also has a Ready to Decorate Chanukah Pre-Baked Sugar Cookie Kit with a dozen cookies shaped like menorahs, dreidels, and Stars of David.
It comes with blue and silver glitter crystals, royal icing mix, blue and yellow color powders, and three piping bags, along with instructions. The kits are great fun for families, Chanukah parties, and kids with nothing to do on a cold afternoon. They’d also make terrific gifts.
