Don’t Let Arthritis Pain Stop You from Quilting
By Debbie, NC Stitches
Quilting has been a central part of my life for years. It has been getting harder with age after I developed arthritis, which causes pain in my hands and fingers. There is nothing more frustrating than having to stop sewing because my hands hurt.
After struggling with arthritis for years, I decided to try Grace & Able Compression Gloves. I was skeptical that compression gloves would make much difference, but these gloves have pleasantly surprised me! My hand pain typically gets worse as the morning wears on and into the afternoon. Since wearing these gloves, I’ve been able to sew for several hours, and my finger pain is more manageable. That means more time doing what I love—quilting!

These gloves provide support and relief without compromising my ability to use my fingers. They provide comfortable compression without restricting the precise hand movements needed for sewing and other everyday activities. They cover my palms and extend to my fingertips, leaving my fingernails exposed.
While the gloves haven’t eliminated my arthritis pain, they’ve made a noticeable difference in my ability to continue quilting with less discomfort. That’s a big deal.
Quilting is something I truly enjoy, and anything that helps me spend more time at my sewing machine is worth considering.
The Grace & Able Compression Gloves
Grace & Able compression gloves were designed in the USA by a hand therapist and are FDA-registered for anyone living with chronic joint pain conditions, including arthritis. They are made of lightweight, breathable fabric (44% cotton, 44% polyester, and 12% spandex). The material provides gentle, consistent compression without stiffening your joints or restricting fine motor movements. The glove covers the palms and extends all the way to the fingertips, leaving only the fingernails exposed so you retain tactile control.
They come in five sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, and extra-large, and are available in a variety of colors. Measure the widest point of your hand by wrapping a tape measure around your knuckles to measure the circumference. Use their sizing chart to select the correct size, and if you are not satisfied, they offer free exchanges within 30 days of delivery.
Sizing tip: If you’re between sizes, I recommend sizing down for a snug fit.
Glove Care
- Hand wash in cool water or wash on a delicate cycle in the washing machine on a low temperature, and then lie flat and air dry to avoid shrinking and preserve elasticity.
- Allow hand creams, gels, or lotions to fully absorb into the skin until dry before putting on the gloves.
She discovered that other people were searching for better joint support products, and collaborated with Certified Hand Therapist Trevor Petrie, to make better joint support products that attract compliments, not stares, support and stabilize joints, and keep you comfortable all day.
If you love sewing, quilting, or other hand-intensive hobbies but find that arthritis pain gets in the way, these gloves are worth trying. I am so glad I did. Anything that keeps me stitching is a winner in my book!
