Can’t hear over the noise? Earplugs can protect you from loud noise from the music at a Simcha, a concert, a sporting event, or even the everyday sounds of the city. Loud sounds (over 85 dB) can damage inner ear structures, causing permanent hearing loss, even tinnitus (ringing/buzzing). Hearing loss can happen slowly or instantly. Don’t take your hearing for granted. Consider using hearing protection that allows you to hear in a noisy environment without fear of damaging your hearing.

We tested Minuendo earplugs, which are known for providing lossless sound. They are designed for listening to everything from concerts, Broadway musicals, to loud Simchas, allowing you to appreciate the experience without being overwhelmed by the noise.

Understanding Sound

Sound is measured by intensity (also referred to as sound power or sound pressure) in units called decibels (dB), named after Alexander Graham Bell. This kind of scale represents how changes in sound intensity feel to our ears. It uses a logarithmic scale. So if a sound is 80 decibels, and we add another 10 decibels, the sound will be ten times more intense and will seem about twice as loud to our ears.

A-weighted decibels (dBA) are used when describing sound level recommendations for healthy listening. While the dB scale is based only on sound intensity, the dBA scale is based on intensity and on how the human ear responds. It is recommended to limit exposure to sounds at 85 dBA.

    • Normal conversation is 60 – 70 dBA is considered safe
    • Lawnmowers and motorcycles 80 – 100 dBA
    • Music through headphones at max. volume, sporting events, and concerts 94 – 110 dBA
    • Sirens from emergency vehicles – 110 – 129 dBA
    • Fireworks 140 – 160 dBA

Minuendo for Lossless Sound

Minuendo is designed to gradually lower the volume. Just as a conductor shapes the dynamics of a symphony. Minuendo allows consumers to control their sound environment precisely and evenly. The technology they use was created by scientists and musicians working together.

Minuendo earplugs protect hearing without sacrificing sound quality. These earplugs reproduce all frequencies without boosting or cutting any specific tones. They use a patented passive membrane technology for natural-sounding hearing protection (7-25dB) without electronics or batteries. The thin membrane acts like a “second eardrum” to filter sound, delivering clear, unmuffled sound quality and providing passive hearing protection with natural sound.

They sell two versions: LIVE 17dB earplugs and Adjustable earplugs. The main difference is that the Adjustable earplugs have a lever on the outside that allows the user to manually adjust, fine-tune the sound passing through the earplugs while keeping the sound clear. The dial controls the loudness, ranging from a mild reduction (around 7dB) for conversations to significant protection (up to 25dB) for loud music. If you want the ability to quickly adjust the volume level of what you’re hearing on the go, these are the earplugs for you.

Value Adds Included

Minuendo earplugs are beautifully packaged in a well-designed, strong box that includes earplugs as well as 11 sets of ear tips in a variety of sizes (memory foam and silicone). They let you experiment to find the right fit for your ears. The tips don’t hurt or fall out. But it took a while to trust that they would stay firmly in place, and so far they have.

The earplugs each have built-in magnets, so they snap together when they are not being worn. Minuendo includes a neck string you can attach to your earplugs. This allows you to take the earplugs off, snap them together, and let them hang around your neck during intermission, or when the noise level is low. Minuendo leaves nothing to chance, even labeling the Left and Right earplugs. Another nice touch is that they include a little pouch for easy storage, as well as a little cleaning brush.

Comfortable, Sleek, and Discreet

We found the fit good. They were easy to put in and take out, and discreet to wear. Our team enjoys using them at Broadway shows and concerts. As a person who grew up hearing ‘Never put anything into your ear,’ it took some getting used to. But it has become a must-wear item at every event. Fortunately, they are small and easy to carry, fitting into a pocket or purse.

Protect your hearing with Minuendo, without sacrificing sound quality. It makes attending a Simcha or concert far more enjoyable. Your hearing is worth taking care of, and Minuendo makes it easy.
