The Hamsa is a symbol familiar to many cultures, consisting of an eye embedded in the palm of an open hand, and is believed to provide protection, power, and strength. The earliest known use of the Hamsa dates to Mesopotamia in 4,000 B.C, where it was associated with the deities Inanna and Ištar. Jews call it the Hand of Miriam, named for Moses and Aaron’s sister, while in the Islamic faith, it symbolizes the Hand of Fatima, daughter of the Prophet Mohammed. There is also an association with Buddhist spiritual gestures, known as “mudra”. In numerology, the number five can represent change, new energy, letting go, and moving away from things that no longer serve you.

Because the Hamsa provides a spiritual connection across time, cultures, and religions, it is fitting that this symbol was selected for ‘Casa de Hamsa’, a tequila brand, certified kosher by the OU, positioned to bring people together and create intercultural unity worldwide. Imagine a tequila that can inspire a culture of understanding and belonging.

Richie Rich and Moses the Jeweler

Brand Creation

Casa de Hamsa was founded in 2022 by six friends with an enormous online presence. Richie Rich, born Richard Nektalov (Bukharan Jewish), began working at a young age at Leon Diamond with his father and brother. Richie transformed the diamond industry as a revolutionary influencer with a strong presence in luxury jewelry, along with Moses the Jeweler, who also has roots in the diamond industry and a presence on social media platforms. They helped create a new generation of jewelers, who transformed the industry.

They created Casa de Hamsa to be a tequila that’s personal, community-driven, and centered around relationships. They leveraged their social media and connections to create and elevate their brand.

They selected the name ‘Case de Hamsa’ to make a statement. This universal symbol of protection and strength suggests the ability to bridge our differences. The Casa de Hamsa bottle uses a stylized Hamsa hand, with two symmetrical thumbs. One side of the bottle is colorfully painted imagery, while the other is a single color (either white or black) with a raised pattern. The bottle itself is an attractive collector’s item; it is well-made, elaborately detailed, and distinctive.  These innovators are building a recognizable brand, which extends beyond liquor, standing out on shelves in stores and in homes.

Three Varieties of Tequila

Tequila is made from blue agave and differs in color and taste, depending on how it is processed. Casa de Hamasa contains 40% alcohol by volume. Blanco tequila is traditionally unaged or aged briefly, offering a pure agave flavor with notes of citrus and pepper. Reposado tequila is aged for 2 months to a year, developing a golden hue and flavors of vanilla, caramel, and toasted nuts. Añejo tequila is aged for 1 to 3 years, resulting in a darker color and more complex notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice.

Casa de Hamsa offers all three, identifiable by bottle color.

Blue Bottle – Casa de Hamsa Blanco Tequila Blanco, also known as white or silver tequila. It presents as a clear liquor, made from 100% agave with no added sugars. The taste is described as citrusy, herbal, and peppery, with an aroma of agave. The mouth feel is smooth, light, and silky. It can be sipped straight and mixes well in cocktails.

Red Bottle – Casa De Hamsa Reposado Tequila is a light amber to golden color, more viscous than Blanco, with a complex taste from aging. Described as containing hints of vanilla and caramel, and notes of toasted oak and gentle spices, such as cinnamon and cloves, and hints of ripe fruits, like cooked apple and dried plum. Some describe a lingering aftertaste of sweet and toasty. We felt it was balanced, presenting subtle, sweeter flavors, a more sophisticated, refined tequila.

Black and Gold Bottle – Casa de Hamsa Añejo presents with a deep amber color from aging in oak barrels. You can smell the aromas, sweet notes of caramel and vanilla, as well as spices like cinnamon, clove, and pepper. Some describe tasting fruity flavors of dried plum, fig, or caramelized pineapple, as well as hints of nutmeg, dark chocolate, and a slight smokiness. This is the most complex (and costly offering), made to drink straight or on the rocks.

For a novice tequila drinker, Casa de Hamsa Blanco offers a nice, smooth liquor and is a good place to start. You can sip it straight or combine it with fruit juices for a summer evening with friends. Casa de Hamsa is a premium tequila whose brand is focused on building connections and celebrating real craftsmanship. Look for it at your local liquor store.
