Eternal Springtime at Chelsea Market
By Two Sues on the Aisle, Susie Rosenbluth and Sue Weston
Hidden behind an unassuming door just outside Chelsea Market, ARTECHOUSE NYC has transformed a century-old subterranean boiler room into a breathtaking world of explosive digital gardens. Their latest exhibition, Blooming Wonders: A Celbration of Spring, is an immersive botanical journey in which pixels and nature converge, wrapping visitors in a vibrant landscape of blossoms and butterflies that come to life through movement and light. Utilizing the world’s most advanced architectural art platform, including seamless megapixel projections and integrated Hyperreal Sound, the experience offers a 20-minute cinematic journey that is as technically impressive as it is visually enchanting.

What to Expect
The journey through the 6,000-square-foot exhibition space is designed to be deeply interactive, utilizing advanced motion-sensing technology to bridge the gap between the visitor and the digital art. Participants wander through the two floors, experiencing different installations, several of which react to their presence in real-time. A simple step can cause a dragonfly to flit away, while simply walking near the projections can trigger a sudden scattering of butterflies.
Interacting with the Installations
Blooming Wonders is at its best in the side galleries, where installations allow participants to influence the movement, using their arms, hands, and fingers to transform digital vines into a symphony of light and sound. Two motion-controlled mini-games “upcycle” simulation, allowing players to navigate through the digitalized debris. Guests, young and old, should find these simulations clever and captivating.

PR-3, the “talking” penguin
Our favorite was PR-3, the “talking” penguin, an AI-driven character created by artist Gavin Shapiro. Located on the lower level, PR-3, an intelligent and witty installation, uses high- fidelity microphones to capture participants’ questions to which the penguin responds in real-time with a voice that matches its playful, slightly robotic aesthetic.

The feature exhibit larger-than-life floral landscape
The feature exhibit is a centrally located larger-than-life floral landscape projected on the walls and floor and viewable from a variety of angles. A good place to start is from the balcony above, which allows a godlike view from Mount Olympus of the twirling patterns of butterflies and cherry blossoms. These images explode, creating the sense of motion, a vortex of colors and shapes. Stepping onto the floor can be tricky, because the imagery creates the illusion of motion, causing visitors to briefly doubt their eyes. Once situated on visitors are soothed by the music, and charmed by the nature following flocks of butterflies through exotic spring blooms and cherry blossoms.

The first floor features an XR (expanded reality) bar that creates a distinct immersive atmosphere well beyond the available drinks and snacks. Above the bar area multiple cameras and AI models create classic digital art displayed overhead screens. It’s a mesmerizing experience as participants watch themselves transform from Renaissance pieces to Greek statues and even Impressionist visualizations. An extra bonus: The bar serves certified kosher snacks. In fact, the entire venue is available for private events—think bat mitzvah parties or Sweet Sixteens—with kosher catering options available.
By blending high-tech innovation with a sense of intimacy, the exhibition provides a versatile environment that is as suited for a quiet rendezvous with friends or a date night as it is for a playful family outing where children can run freely amid the projections.
The exhibition is designed to stimulate curiosity and leave a lasting impression on visitors of all ages. By embracing the possibilities of digital technology, the venue creates a space where imagination and creativity grow, and springtime is always in full bloom. ARTECHOUSE NYC offers a unique opportunity to step inside the art itself. It is a reminder that in the heart of the city, there is a space where pixels and nature converge to create memories that will last a lifetime.
Two Sues on the Aisle bases its ratings on how many challahs (1-5) it pays to buy (rather than make) to see the play, show, film, book, or exhibit being reviewed.
