Chances Are Trump Will Lose This One: Here’s What to Do to Prepare

Less than 48 hours before Election Day, I have some suggestions for everyone I know and love. It’s not as if we can expect to know the results on Tuesday night. In all probability, we won’t know anything except, perhaps, trends. But at least there will no longer be any sense in trying to convince anyone about which candidate deserves or doesn’t deserve your vote.

All that’s left to discuss is what you should do depending on the outcome.

First, no matter who wins, you must be prepared for there to be violence. This doesn’t mean there will necessarily be violence. It means you have to be prepared that there might be.

If Trump wins, the left-wing forces that have become so good at “peaceful protesting” (read rioting and looting), including the well-financed and organized Antifa thugs and leaders of the organization Black Lives Matter (as opposed to those who simply endorse the philosophy), will take to the streets. They have already made announcements to that effect, and shop owners in Democrat-controlled cities across the country, including Philadelphia, Los Angeles, New York, and many suburbs, are taking them at their word. Merchants are boarding up their stores, hoping to save what they can.

Stock Up on Food and Supplies

That doesn’t mean if Biden wins there won’t be violence. The folks who are threatening to rampage don’t have to rely on logic.  If they feel like rioting, they can blame it on anything from “systemic racism” to the need to show a little “cancel culture.”

Therefore, my loved ones, it would behoove you tomorrow (Monday) or during the day on Tuesday to stock up on canned goods, frozen foods, and staples, such as powdered milk, pasta, peanut butter, paper goods, and so forth.

Buy enough to last at least a week or so. By that time, either local authorities will put an end to the violence or we will have to hope that, whether he wins or loses, President Trump takes a page out of President Dwight Eisenhower’s book and federalizes the National Guard in states where it is necessary.

(A big of history: In 1957, the Supreme Court had already issued two rulings requiring school integration, but that didn’t stop Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus from bringing in his state’s National Guard to prevent nine black students from entering Little Rock’s Central High School. To ensure the students’ safety and to enforce the Supreme Court’s ruling, President Eisenhower issued an Executive Order which put the Arkansas National Guard under the federal authority. He also sent in 1,000 US Army troops to maintain order.)

Advertising and Polls

That’s what must happen in the immediate short-run. Now we must discuss what to do in the long run if (from our perspective), G-d forbid, President Trump loses, and we would be less than honest if we don’t admit that is probably what we are facing.

I am expecting Biden-Harris to win for two reasons. First, experience has proven that advertising works. If it didn’t, companies wouldn’t spend billions of dollars every year marketing and hawking their products. Joe Biden has received billions of dollars in free advertising from the media, most of whom have taken it as their mission to defeat President Trump. Their hatred of him reflects that of so many of his opponents (too gentle a word, I know; they are his enemies and possibly the enemies of all of us who support him), amounting to nothing short of a mass psychosis which some have taken to calling Trump Derangement Syndrome.

The second reason Biden will probably win is that the polls have been telling us this for some time. It is fashionable for Trump supporters to dismiss the polls (and G-d knows, I hope the dismissers are correct), but although the pollsters, being businessmen, may hate President Trump themselves, the only thing they probably hate more is being wrong. If they are wrong again, it may well be the end of polling in this country, which would mean they will be out of jobs. They know this as well as I do, and, therefore, it is unreasonable to think that just because they hate Donald Trump, they have gone out of their way to skew the polls.

Pandemic Will Continue

If Biden-Harris win the election, we can expect some pretty awful consequences. In addition to higher taxes and a resumption of the onerous, business-killing regulations that Donald Trump eliminated, nothing they do will end the pandemic in the US any faster than if Trump remained President.

The number of cases in the US or any place else in the world is meaningless. Most experts believe no matter how many cases are discovered—and they’re discovered because an increasing number of people are being tested—the actual number of cases is probably ten times higher.

Some people squeal that the United States has “five percent of the world’s population and twenty percent of the world’s cases of COVID.” In fact, no one knows what percentage of the world’s cases we have, mostly because China and India constitute half the world’s population and no one has any idea how many cases they have. The Chinese Communist Party is congenitally unable to tell the truth about anything (least of all how many cases of COVID they have), and while the Indians would love to present an accurate number, they have no idea how many cases there are in their hinterlands, where no one is being tested and when people die, no one knows why.

Add to this countries such as Russia, Iran, and North Korea, that will not tell the truth about anything going on in their countries regarding COVID, and it becomes clear that the idea of spouting that the US has twenty percent of the cases is nothing short of ludicrous.

Real Metrics

To judge how well or poorly the US under President Trump has performed controlling COVID, the only metrics that make any sense are how many hospitalizations per million population (very sick patients as opposed to the vast majority of COVID patients who are either asymptomatic or very mild), and how many deaths per million population.

A look at rolling numbers over any seven-day period in October show that, in the US, we had 2.5 deaths per million population. In France, the number is 2.8 deaths per million population. In Spain, it’s 3.3; in the UK, it’s 2.65; in Italy, it’s 2.4; and in Belgium, it’s a whopping 5.6. In Germany, it was very low (.5 deaths per million population), but those numbers are going up, and in Israel, it was 3.3 million, but those numbers are going down rapidly.

In short, the US is doing about as well as all other Western countries, better than most. Would anyone blame President Trump for the number of deaths throughout the world? It is a pandemic, and nothing short of vaccine and better therapeutics will help. President Trump has been taking steps towards that end, and nothing Biden-Harris will do will hasten them.

Back to Obama on Israel

But if the Biden-Harris administration cannot fix the pandemic, they surely will come up with policies that will make many other issues a lot worse. For example, they will end the good relations Israel enjoyed with the United States. Biden-Harris will probably end recognition of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria; end allowing Americans born in Jerusalem to include Israel on their passports; and end virtually all elements of the proposed Trump peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians. In its place, they will once again insist that Israel take unilateral “risks for peace” for the tired and impossible “two-state solution.”

Biden-Harris will reinstate the Iran Nuclear Deal, thus, perhaps, risking the Abrahamic Accords between Israel and her Sunni Muslim-bloc Arab neighbors.

Domestically, if the Democrats also win a majority in the Senate, they will do away with the filibuster, making any minority voices irrelevant; pack the US Supreme Court with four to six new left-wing justices; “pack” the Senate and House with presumably Democrat legislators from the newly recognized states of Puerto Rico and Washington, DC; and then “pack” the voter rolls with presumably Democrats comprised of unvetted and unvettable immigrants entering, unimpeded, through wide-open borders.

In short, the United States will become a one-party country run by an increasingly left-wing Democrats.

There is little we will be able to do about any of the above. We know how the left regards free speech on college campuses and social media platforms. There is no reason to suppose the same attitudes will not infuse the legislature and the newly packed Courts.

Escape

With the country we love becoming unrecognizable, there will be little we can do except escape.

According to sources in the State Department, there has already been an uptick in the number of American Jews applying and reapplying for passports. According to the Jerusalem Post, many left-wing and secular American Jews are already considering fleeing to Canada (!) if Donald Trump is re-elected. On the other hand, observant American Jews of all stripes, from Modern Orthodox to much more traditional, are seriously contemplating Aliyah if he loses.

All I ask of you, my loved ones, is three things: Make sure all of your passports are in order (everyone in the family, including infants, needs his or her own passport); keep your eyes and ears open for signs that things are getting worse; and start making arrangements for Plan B.

I’m happy to report that we have already started. This week, we are on the verge of doing something I would have sworn last year was impossible. We may buy an apartment in Israel, sight-unseen.

This means, at the very least, I can tell my children and grandchildren they will have a place to sleep—even if it means we’re all in sleeping bags and blankets on the floor—if necessary.

No, there is nothing right now on the horizon that suggests the newly elected Democrats will start lining Jews up against the wall—at least not yet—or enacting laws to prevent us from leaving. In fact, from everything that’s been said, they’ll be thrilled to wave farewell to us as we depart.

All of which is to say, we’ve got some time now. Don’t squander it.

What keeps me up at night is worrying about all the sane, moral, politically conservative non-Jewish Americans who have become partners with the Jewish community in endorsing everything from free speech and freedom of religion to working for the close, supportive relationship between the US and Israel. For the first time in history, Jews have a place to which we can flee. Where are non-Jewish Americans going to go? Where is their Israel?
