U.S. Support Grows for Resolution Affirming Israel’s Historic Claim to the Temple Mount

NEW YORK –A leading American pro-Israel organization has praised Representative Claudia Tenney for authoring a House motion this week. Americans for a Safe Israel (AFSI) commended the legislation, which declares the “recognition of the Temple Mount as the holiest site in Judaism.” AFSI called the resolution “timely and correct.”

Rep. Tenney said on October 28:

“The Temple Mount is the holiest site in the world for the Jewish people and a symbol of faith and freedom for millions around the world. For generations, Israel has ensured that people of all faiths can access and pray at sacred sites, a freedom that remains nonexistent across much of the Middle East.”

“Distressingly, there was a lot of talk after the October 7 Hamas-led invasion of Israel about the so-called need for ‘status quo’ on the Temple Mount,” said Moshe Phillips, Chairman of AFSI. “U.S. State Department officials under the Biden-Harris administration treated the ‘status quo’ as if it were sacred. They seemed to have forgotten that just because something has been the ‘status quo’ for a while doesn’t make it right. It is very gratifying to see that sentiment has changed in Washington, and we applaud Rep. Claudia Tenney for her work.”

Phillips also noted that it is alarming that foreign governments have chosen to condemn efforts for organized Jewish prayer at Judaism’s holiest site.

“As far back as 2017, it was reported in The Jerusalem Post that ‘68% of Israelis think it is important for Jews to be allowed to pray on the Temple Mount, as opposed to the status quo,’” said Phillips. “The Temple Mount is the heart of Israel, and Israelis know it — and now American politicians have this opportunity to speak out in agreement with the majority of Israelis because of Rep. Claudia Tenney.”
