Traveling Kosher – Take Along Foods
By Chef David
Sometimes it can be challenging to find the right kosher take-along food, especially when you are preparing to travel. There is an abundance of to-go, kosher snacks, but locating satisfying items that hit the spot, are easy to carry, and prepare. We want to share two unusual options, a bar and a soup, each conjuring up memories of childhood, a warm familiarity, and the perfect indulgence for at home or on the road.

Travel Snack Nelly’s Bars
Nelly’s Organic is a travel bar that checks all the boxes: gluten-free, pareve certified by the Kuf K. They are soy, gluten, and palm oil free and low-sodium. While it contains no preservatives, it should be refrigerated, but can be out of the refrigerator for up to a week. Most importantly, each of the five varieties has an incredible taste. The ingredients are simple, organic, recognizable, including raw cashews, brown rice syrup, cacao butter, peanut butter, shredded coconut, blue agave, vanilla beans, and pink Himalayan salt.
Nelly’s bars offer a healthier version of the snacks from our childhood. They are a good source of protein and fiber made with organic, nutrient-dense whole foods, wrapped in dark chocolate.

Matzo Ball soup brings back childhood memories, the ultimate comfort food. Now you can find it in a convenient take-along form from Nooish, certified kosher pareve by the CRC, letting you share the feeling of family, holidays with anyone, anywhere, which can be purchased online.
Nooish Instant Matzo Ball Soup is fast and easy to make, with no mess or fuss. Just add hot water, wait while the carrots and matzo balls rehydrate. Stir, savor, and enjoy the feeling of home.
It can be tricky to make the perfect matzo balls. Nooish makes it simple to consistently get light and airy matzo balls. The ingredients are simple: matzo meal, egg, sunflower oil, carrot, yeast, mushroom powder, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, lemon juice, turmeric, and dill.
Preparation: Like many instant soups, Nooish comes in a convenient package that doubles as a bowl. Nooish can be prepared either with boiling water or in a microwave. Open the lid, empty the spices package, and fill to the line with boiling water, stir, let stand for 10 minutes, or add water and microwave for 2 minutes without a lid, recover, and let it sit for 2 minutes.
Each 1.34-ounce container contains 180 calories, 880 mg of sodium, 5 grams of protein, 2% calcium and iron, and 4% potassium.

Our Impression
We were initially shocked to see an almost empty container, with a small spice package and three matzo balls. But we realized this simple cup-a-soup provides a Jewish lifeline that extends across the country, providing easy access to the flavors of childhood, the taste of homemade matzo ball soup.
To our surprise, the taste and aroma were remarkably authentic for an instant soup. While it was not the soup that grandma made, it was a suitable substitute. It was warm and welcoming with soft matzo balls and even a carrot slice. For some, the experience will rekindle memories of growing up and Friday night. (Note: currently it is not kosher for Passover)
Favorite Childhood Tastes to Bring Along
We delighted in the ability to upgrade our take-along snacks to provide connections to childhood favorites. Nelly’s offers a healthier version of snack classics, and Nooish makes matzo ball soup portable. Eating on the road can be challenging, but these two products are game-changers, delivering taste, convenience, and both are kosher pareve.
Delight in the delicious with Nooish Instant Matzo Ball Soup and Nelly’s Organic bars.
