PureWild, an OU-certified kosher, collagen-infused beverage with all sorts of health benefits, may be the next-best thing to discovering the Fountain of Youth.

Collagen, the main structural protein found in the body’s various connective tissues, including bones, skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, is, according to some experts, an anti-aging secret wonder. It is currently being touted in the beauty world for everything from improved hair growth to enhanced skin elasticity, which, they say, decreases the appearance of wrinkles.

Some experts say collagen, whose name comes from the Greek word meaning “glue,” has been shown to increase bone density and boost joint and muscle health.

The level of collagen in the human body declines as we age. By the time we reach 20, the production of collagen starts to slow at the rate of between one and one-and-a-half percent per year. Additionally, collagen can be destroyed by too much exposure to the sun’s UV rays, smoking, and eating refined sugar/carbohydrates.

Making It Taste Good

Studies have shown that taking collagen supplements can reduce the effects of arthritis, increase muscle mass, and improve skin elasticity. The most promising supplements are those broken down into smaller peptides, which the body can absorb more easily.

This is what Cindy Convery, the founder of PureWild, had in mind when she set out to find a better collagen product than what was currently on the market. Wanting to add collagen to her system for bone health and joint support, she sought to invent a product that did not come from cows, pigs, or warm-water farmed fish. She also wanted it to taste good, which most of the products she tried did not.

Experimenting in her kitchen in Ojai, California, she added fresh lime juice and honey to 3,000 mg of the cleanest, deep-cold-water marine collagen she could find—all of it from her family’s fishery based in Nova Scotia since 1945. After mixing in ginseng “for an energy boost,” she called the resulting beverage “PureWild.” As she says, “The healthy choices we make should be a pleasure”.

Not Fishy at All

I opened my first 12-ounce bottle of PureWild with trepidation, expecting a fishy taste in a viscous syrup (think gefilte-fish jelly), but I was pleasantly surprised to find myself sipping a refreshing beverage that comes in three flavors. The lime was tart; the blueberry holy basil was sweet; and the mango-turmeric ginger was refreshing in a fruity sort of way. The base is filtered water and organic juices, which provide a soft flavor without any aftertaste or even a hint of fish.

Mango Turmeric calls itself a bone-builder and a brain-booster that provides clarity. Its 80 calories come from organic mango puree, passion fruit juice, organic turmeric, and organic honey. My personal favorite of the three.

Lime Agave Ginseng, which, Ms. Convery says, promotes heart health and supplies an energy lift, supplies 70 calories. Its all-organic ingredients include lime juice, agave nectar, and ginseng root.

With 60 calories, Blueberry Holy Basil, which promotes joint support and is a reputed stress soother, includes holy basil, blueberry juice (an antioxidant), organic honey, and cinnamon.

PureWild, a winner of the 2020 GDUSA Best Product Design Award, is the only kosher, non-GMO marine collagen drink that claims to boost mental health and lower stress. Like any supplement, it should be part of a healthy diet and exercise regiment to produce desired results.
