Finding the Best Tools: XL Slotted Quilting Ruler – QuiltCut
By Debbie NC Stitches
As a sewing/quilting enthusiast, searching for the best tools can be a daunting task. Too many choices can be overwhelming when looking to add the best tools for your sewing room. Often, I have bought notions and tools that didn’t work as promised only to throw them in the trash.
Hopefully, this article will help you select a slotted ruler that you will use for many years.
Making Accurate Cuts
Cutting the fabric is the first step in creating beautiful quilts, Therefore it is very important to make accurate cuts. Much like the foundation of a house, starting your project with accurately cut fabric will make your finished product look much more professional.
One of my favorite new tools is the QuiltCut Strip Savvy XL Slotted Quilting Ruler, and it is a great time saver. The XL Slotted Quilting Ruler is 24” wide and 17” tall, which is wider than other strip rulers. Using the Strip Savvy XL Slotted Quilting Ruler you can cut fabric as tall (high) as 14 7/8”.
Strip Savvy Slotted XL Quilting Ruler
QuiltCut’s Strip Savvy Slotted XL Quilting Ruler lets you cut fabric up to 22” wide. With the extra wide ruler, you can cut the entire width of a 42” bolt of fabric. Also, a fat quarter can be sub-cut with ease. The extra width allows the user to easily cut off the selvage edge and the fabric fold at the same time. This reduces the possibility of a misalignment error.
The Strip Savvy XL Quilting Ruler has both a 45-degree Diamond line and a 60-degree Diamond line for cutting angles. In addition, there are markings for cutting perfect squares from 2” x 2” squares up to 12” x 12” squares (there are also markings for 3”, 4”, 5”, 6”, 7”, 8”, 9”, 10” and 11” squares).
Other features:
- Cut squares, diamonds, rectangles, and triangles.
- Square up and fussy cut blocks from 2” to 12” in ½ inch increments.
- A non-slip surface holds the fabric in place.
- Made from ultra-durable material with a hanging hole for easy storage.
- Detailed instructions are included.
What We Liked
Using this slotted ruler, anyone can cut fabric with either a 45mm rotary cutter or a 60mm rotary cutter without issues. Since the 60 mm blade is larger, using the 60mm rotary cutter might be easier when cutting through several layers of fabric. Both blades easily moved through the slots.
After using the QuiltCut Strip Savvy XL Slotted Quilting Ruler I retired all my other strip cutters. We recommend adding this ruler to your sewing room.
