50,000 Signatures Asking Facebook to Let Them Decry Zionism Does Not Make Their Postings Any Less Antisemitic

If we start judging whether an idea is antisemitic (or represents any other bias, for that matter) by how many groups and individuals want desperately to express it, we might as well throw in the towel right now.

In his address to Parliament, the late-Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, z”tl, explained that the problem with antisemitism is that antisemites almost never say they are opposed to Jews, and, like a virus, antisemitism itself keeps morphing such that it is not easy to keep track of the little sucker.

In the Middle Ages, antisemites did not say they hated Jews. They loved Jews. They just hated their religion. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the antisemites didn’t hate Jews. They just hated their race. Today, I’m sure all–or, at least most–of the groups cited in the press release below would swear they don’t hate Jews. They just hate the one Jewish nation-state. It’s the same antisemitism dressed up in a different gown, and, this time, they are fooling no one.
